A few weeks back I was tickling M and she was giggling like crazy and through the laughter said "no mama, no more". And caught in the moment I laughed along and kept tickling.
She then looked at me and fiercely said "No me gusta Mama! My body my choice!"
In that moment it was such an intense mixture of two conflicting emotions: pride and guilt.
I got washed away in the moment of fun and forgot to listen to her words that expressed boundaries and I was sorry for that. But goddamn, good job little one - speaking up for yourself and knowing you have a choice to do so.
They might be too young to wrap their minds around the concept of feminism, but I do my best to share with them the values of this movement and ideology everyday. Starting with their right to bodily autonomy and self expression.
